At RuggedOutdoors, we are passionate about living the outdoor lifestyle. We are also passionate about providing our customers with the best gear available, for their everyday and their adventures. In this post series, we highlight some of our brands that help us do what we love.
Meet Merrell Footwear. It's possible — even likely — that you've had a pair of their boots before. Widely known for their hiking and work boots, Merrell has been a go-to for active people for over three decades. Their original designs were developed by adding American cowboy boot technology to the Italian boot manufacturing process. This created a boot that was meant to last a decade. In fact the Wilderness boot, one of the earliest Merrell styles with its signature blue laces, remains in the line today. Their Moab hiking boots and Jungle Mocs are among the most popular in the world.
Merrell was established in 1981 when two executives at the Rossignol ski company, Clark Matis and John Schweizer, decided to launch a new hiking boot manufacturer. Since 1997, the company has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of shoe industry giant Wolverine World Wide. Today, Merrell is a global leader in outdoor active footwear.
Merrell works to help remove barriers to help people enjoy the outdoors. They value thoughtfully designed, rigorously tested products that deliver on comfort, performance, versatility and durability. Because of this, you'll find Merrell shoes for hiking, trail running, training, work, and everyday life. They incorporate many technologies in their products, like Vibram® Arctic Grip™ for unparalleled grip on ice, GORE-TEX® for durable waterproofing and breathability, ultra light-weight FloatPro™ foam for agility, Vibram® Megagrip® outsoles with for better grip on rock and wet or dry terrain, and FLEXconnect, a dual-directional flex-groove midsole for agility and stability.
Sustainability is a huge factor for most outdoors brands, and that's true for Merrell as well. They incorporate recycled water bottles in their sock line, and use recycled rubber in several of their shoe lines. Durability is key for sustainability with Merrell. By providing a shoe that will last, they are reducing waste because their shoes don't need to be replaced as often.
At RuggedOutdoors, we love Merrell because it is a truly timeless brand and their shoes are seriously tough. Check out some of the Merrell shoes we carry.
